Oh how I LOVE this boy. Well, he's not really a boy anymore but he'll always be "my" boy. Steven is my sister Donna's son. Since the day of his birth he has been very special to me. He has a memory like an elephant...he never forgets and I'm counting on that for the next time I see him. I want all his memories of him mother and me.
Why is Steven such an important person to me? Well, when my children were born and as they grew, Steven took a great interest in them. He did a lot of babysitting for me when I was a single mother. He would play games with them and make them feel special. He helped make Easter and Christmas magical for them and I'm not sure he knows how much I appreciate that. I do.
One thing I have always admired about my nephew is his devotion to his beliefs and his focus on his goals. Shortly before Steven was to leave to serve a mission for the LDS church, his mother (my sweet sister and friend) was killed in a tragic car accident. It would have been easy for him to stay home...to forgo his service to the Lord. No one would have blamed him. But, nope. He went. He served an honorable mission to the people in Oklahoma. I love him for that.
Finally, one last thing. Steven is a teacher. A full-fledged teacher. He teaches sixth-grade in Salt Lake City. As a teacher, I understand what that takes. It takes an extra special type of man to choose teaching as a profession. I with more men would become teachers for that matter. I'd like to think that he followed in my footsteps but I'm pretty sure I had nothing to do with it. At any rate, I'm so proud of him.
I love you Steven. I'm pretty sure you know just how much. I just wish we could get together more. We live pretty close. Let's do it!!
This picture totally cracks me up every.time.

I shall NEVER make him mad.
