So, with my very best armchair intuition, I will make a list of my predictions for the winners this year. Ready? Here we go:
Best Actor: Sean Penn for "Milk". I haven't seen this movie but given that it is about a very
popular topic in the "world" right now and that the Academy loves Sean Penn and a controversial topic, I think he will conquer all.

Best Actress: Kate Winslet for "The Reader". Even though she is up against Meryl Streep (an amazing actress) I'm going with Kate. I love her. Whenever I see her in any interview, she is such a little lady. Very sweet and ladylike.

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger for "The Dark Knight"
. This is a no brainer. The academy wants to be on the cutting edge in shockdom. Choosing a dead actor would fit that bill. However, he really was an amazing actor in that movie.

Best Supporting Actress: I want it to be Viola Davis for
"Doubt", BUT I really think they will pick Penelope Cruz for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona". I haven't seen this one but she always does such an amazing job. PLUS...she is beautiful. If you're beautiful, you always win. Right?

AND for my final pick (yes, I do realize there are many more categories but, let's be honest, who really cares about them!)
Drum Roll Please....
Best Picture: "Slumdog Millionaire" I LOVED THIS MOVIE! It was such an amazing film with a good message. Having lived on that side of the planet, I was absolutely mesmerized at the clarity and authenticness (is that a word) of the entire film. I felt like I had been to every spot they filmed. I love the people of India/Sri Lanka. I really need to go back someday.
I also think that "Slumdog Millionaire" will take home an Oscar for: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, and Original Score (I loved it).

As you may have noticed, I didn't pick anything for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons". I really liked the movie but it was way too long. I'm sure it will get some awards but none of the big ones. If they don't win for make up I will eat my own hat (if I had one). That one is a no brainer. They could even win for visual effects.

NOTE: I am not a professional at judging movies but I do enjoy movies. I'm thinking that if I get all my predictions correct, someone should definitely buy me a Diet Coke. Any takers???
